A pottery wheel is one of those things most people have seen but never tried. This session gives you thirty minutes on one: clay ready, tools set, an instructor nearby if you need them. You leave with something you made, or Add-on the piece for firing and collect a finished ceramic later.

Centring the clay is the hardest part of wheel throwing. Professional potters spend months on it.

Glaze is liquid glass. At kiln temperature it fuses into the surface, making ceramics waterproof and food-safe.

Experience flow

Sit Down at the Wheel

You take your seat at the pottery wheel and the clay is already centred and ready. The instructor gives you a quick orientation on how to start the wheel and hold your hands before you begin.

First Contact

The wheel spins and you press your hands into the clay. It responds immediately to pressure and position, and within a few minutes something starts to take shape. Most people find the first few minutes the most surprising part.

Shape It

For the next twenty-odd minutes you work the form. Bowls, cylinders, and mini vases are all achievable. The instructor steps in if something is going sideways, but mostly the session is yours to figure out.

Take It or Leave It

When time is up, you decide: take the raw piece home, or leave it for firing and glazing (Add-on). Both leave you with something you made yourself.

Total Duration: 30-35 mins

The pottery wheel was invented around 3,500 BCE in Mesopotamia. Before that, all pottery was hand-built.
