I went for the scalloped edge because it felt a bit more playful. Using slab rolling techniques, we flattened the clay and shaped it carefully with guidance. It’s surprisingly therapeutic to feel the clay respond to your touch – soft, cool, and alive. The instructors were super helpful, making sure we understood each step without rushing. It’s a perfect activity if you’re looking to slow down and create something meaningful.
Painting and Carving to Make It Truly Yours
This reminds me of a time when I was painting my plate and discovered how relaxing and freeing it is to put your personal touch on clay with underglaze paints. The workshop introduced the sgraffito carving technique where you scratch designs through the paint to reveal the clay beneath. It’s like drawing but with texture and depth. And if you don’t want to carry your piece immediately, you can leave it for glazing and firing and have it delivered to your doorstep in a few weeks!

I chose to leave mine for firing because I wanted that glossy, durable surface. It takes about 4 to 5 weeks, which builds anticipation – like waiting for a little gift from yourself. And when it arrives, it’s a beautiful reminder of a day spent creating something with care. Honestly, this experience is a must-try for anyone who loves to craft or just wants a unique, hands-on escape in Mumbai.
